Jamie McMurray Wins 2010 Brickyard 400
Sunday, July 25, 2010
Jamie McMurray helped team owner Chip Ganassi make motorsports history Sunday, July 25 by winning the Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Ganassi became the first team owner to win the Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400 – the Triple Crown of American oval racing – in the same year. McMurray also won in February at Daytona in his Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates entry, while Dario Franchitti won the Indianapolis 500 in May in a Target Chip Ganassi Racing entry.
McMurray also joined an elite club by becoming just the third driver to win the Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400 in the same season, joining Dale Jarrett in 1996 and Jimmie Johnson in 2006. McMurray pulled away from Kevin Harvick after making a pass on a late restart and beat Harvick to the checkered flag by 1.391 seconds. Greg Biffle finished second.
Pole sitter Juan Pablo Montoya led the most laps, 86, but finished 32nd after he was eliminated from the race in an accident with 15 laps remaining.
