Continuing their efforts to recognize individuals who demonstrate a long-standing commitment to preserving the legacy of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Allstate and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway have named the recipient of this year's Allstate® 400 Bricklayer Award.
Brigadier General J. Stewart Goodwin, the Assistant Adjutant General, Indiana Air National Guard and Deputy Joint Forces Commander - Air for the Indiana National Guard Joint Forces Headquarters in Indianapolis, was announced as this year's winner of the Allstate® 400 Bricklayer Award for his commitment to excellence in serving as a liaison between the Armed Forces and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Goodwin has worked tirelessly to help coordinate inspiring tributes to American troops during IMS events, including the pre-race flyover.
Goodwin was presented with the Allstate® 400 Bricklayer award trophy during pre-race ceremonies for the Allstate 400® at the Brickyard® on Sunday, July 27.
"Allstate is proud to honor those individuals who, when it comes to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, have demonstrated all the qualities our company stands behind - hard-work, dedication and focus on excellence," said Brian Walsh, assistant field vice president for Allstate's North Central Region. "We created this award in 2005 to pay tribute to committed individuals such as J. Stewart Goodwin who make the Allstate® 400 at the Brickyard® that much better."
Winners of the Allstate 400 Bricklayer Award are nominated and chosen by a committee, consisting of one representative from Allstate and three Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials.
"General Goodwin is the ideal recipient of the Allstate 400 Bricklayer Award," said Joie Chitwood, IMS president and chief operating officer. "His distinguished service to America is a hallmark of our military personnel everywhere. Honoring America's troops is a very important part of every event at IMS. General Goodwin has served as the liaison between IMS and the U.S. Armed Forces with honor for many years, ensuring that tributes to our troops -- including the popular pre-race flyover -- are memorable and stirring for our fans."
A native of Indianapolis, Goodwin is an avid race fan and proud member of the Indianapolis community serving as the Executive Director of the Indiana War Memorials Commission and on the Indianapolis Event Advisory Board, among others.
