The Indianapolis Motor Speedway will continue its support of the Department of Defense's America Supports You initiative at the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard by selling commemorative dog tags, with proceeds benefiting the Homes for Our Troops organization.
The Speedway first became involved with America Supports You during the 89th Indianapolis 500 in May 2005.
America Supports You is a nationwide initiative to showcase and communicate 's support for our men and women in the United States Armed Forces and their families. The dog tags, which are $5 each, and Homes for Our Troops information will be available at a booth located in the Pagoda Plaza from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5 and Saturday, Aug. 6, and 8 a.m.-11 a.m. on Race Day, Sunday, Aug. 7.
Homes for Our Troops is a nonprofit organization committed to helping members of the United States Armed Forces who have selflessly given to their country and have returned home with serious disabilities and injuries.
The organization assists injured service men and women and their immediate families by raising donations of money, building materials and professional labor, and coordinating the process of building a new home or adapting an existing home for handicapped accessibility.
"The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has a special tradition of supporting the United States Armed Forces since the track opened in 1909," said Joie Chitwood, IMS president and chief operating officer. "Our relationship with 's military deepened in May by participating in the America Supports You program, and we're honored and grateful to continue saluting our troops' bravery, sacrifice and service during the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard."
