NASCAR fans can provide the gift of life by participating in the NASCAR Foundation Blood and Marrow Drive on Saturday, Aug. 5 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard.

The drive will take place from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. (ET) in the East Museum Lot in the infield of the Speedway, adjacent to the Speedway Hall of Fame Museum.

Since the Drive is located inside the facility, participants must pay for gate admission, which is $15. Track activities that day include NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series qualifying and two practice sessions.

The NASCAR Foundation, in partnership with the Hendrick Marrow Program, is staging blood and marrow drives at select tracks nationwide.

"My work with the American Red Cross has shown me the importance of blood donations," said Jimmie Johnson, driver of Hendrick Motorsports' No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet. "The NASCAR Foundation Blood and Marrow Drive is a great way to build awareness within the NASCAR family, and I encourage fans everywhere to get involved and participate."

In addition to giving blood, fans also are encouraged to join the National Marrow Donor Program® Registry of volunteer marrow donors. Every day, thousands of patients with life-threatening diseases that could be treated with a marrow transplant are searching the Registry for a donor.

"I have learned through my personal experience how important the National Marrow Donor Program Registry is to patients in search of hope," said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports, who was stricken with leukemia in 1997. "Joining the Registry is a quick, pain-free process that could save someone's life. The NASCAR Foundation Blood and Marrow Drive is a wonderful way to help those in need and have a little fun at the same time."
