The crystal ball known as the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard once again was very clear this season.
For the sixth time in the last nine years, the winner of the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard at Indianapolis Motor Speedway also won NASCAR's top championship in the same season.
{{display_poll_23}}2006 winner Jimmie Johnson clinched his first NEXTEL Cup Series championship by finishing ninth in the Ford 400 on Nov. 19 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Johnson won the title by 51 points over 2003 Cup champion Matt Kenseth.
"It's everything I wanted it to be," said Johnson, who finished second in the 2003 and 2004 standings.
Johnson joins Jeff Gordon (1998, 2001), Dale Jarrett (1999), Bobby Labonte (2000) and Tony Stewart (2005) as Allstate 400 at the Brickyard winners and NASCAR Cup Series champions in the same year.
