I've found that depending on what you use to paint them, you can go about it a number of ways.
A.If you have a basic graphic program you should be able to copy/pastesections or parts of the template as well as using some drawing tool,such as a pencil or pen to overlay the design you are wanting.
B. Ina higher-end program such as Photoshop or Illustrator, the .epstemplate is preferred as it allows you to open it in it's original'layered' state.
